This is the list of the sub-groups organised by Margate WI. Any member of Margate WI can join any of the sub-groups. Members keep in touch with others in the group via WhatsApp and also meet up in person.

Mermaid Makers

The Mermaid Makers is a chance for our members to come together to get creative, make and more often than not, learn something new. 

Green-fingered WI group

This group is for all our members who want to share their love of plants and gardening. Activities include plant and seed swaps, garden visits, sharing top tips and offering support to those who are new to gardening.

Mermaids Meet Up

This sub-group is for members who enjoy meeting up to do something social, such as go for a meal, visit an art exhibition, or team up for a fun activity.

Mermaid Readers

This sub-group is for those who enjoy reading. Members will meet and chat about their latest reads, offering great book recommendations to each other.

Quilts for Mama to Mama

This group gets together to make quilts that can be passed on to local charity ‘Mama to Mama’ to be given to families in need (click here to find out more about this charity).

The Clam-paigners

This sub-group meets to work on the finer details of our campaigns, such as ‘Bystanders can be Lifesavers’ (click here to find out more about this campaign).

The Mermaids Get Trashed

This sub-group focuses on organising litter picks in and around Margate’s green spaces, in a nod to the original WI campaign of 1954 which led to the creation of Keep Britain Tidy.

Margate WI Mermaids

The members in this sub-group meet daily, all year round, for a morning swim – usually at Walpole Bay Tidal Pool.

Marlowe Theatre

Members can join this sub-group to enjoy discounted tickets to selected shows at The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury to offer discounted theatre tickets to selected shows booked as a group. Friends and family are welcome as part of the booking.
